The City of Binghamton has hired an outside attorney to conduct an investigation into the incident involving Bingamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski.

The incident occurred on July 18 in Johnson City. Susan Rice was charged after she allegedly punched her 16-year-old neighbor and his 18-year-old friend during an argument.

Zikuski was present at the time of the incident, but he was off duty. He was seen on a now viral video helping take Rice off the neighbor’s porch.

Rice was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, trespassing and harassment.

Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham placed Zikuski on paid administrative leave, pending an investigation.

Karl J. Sleight of Lippes Mathias LLP will conduct the investigation. The findings will be released publicly when the investigation is completed.
