A Sayre man is in the Bradford County Correctional Facility without bail on allegations he attempted to make an explosive device while making threats to the Sayre Borough Police Department and Magisterial District Judge Larry Hurley.

41-year-old Jeffrey Leonard McKinery posted many of these threats on Facebook, according to police, who were notified about his posts last week. Police found McKinery in a shed at his parents’ residence with 210 M-80-style fireworks and a jar of 1,500 BBs, which could be used to create an improvised explosive. McKinery screamed and struggled with officers after being taken into custody.

McKinery faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges including the second-degree felony of unlawful possession or manufacture of weapons of mass destruction, second degree felony retaliation against a judicial official, and first-degree misdemeanor possession of prohibited offensive weapons. McKinery’s bail was revoked due to the threat police said he posed to the community.

McKinery is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next Friday before Magisterial District Judge Todd Carr.
