A Buffalo man was indicted by a Broome County jury last week after he allegedly assaulted an umpire after a game in Binghamton last month.

According to the Broome County District Attorney’s Office, Leonard P. Wackowski was indicted on one count of felony assault in the second degree.

The 68-year-old umpire was walking to his vehicle following a game on July 6 when Wackowski allegedly approached him and began yelling at him about calls made during the game.

According to the New York State Police, the altercation escalated when the suspect allegedly swept the umpire’s legs out from under him, causing him to fall to the ground. He is accused of then striking the victim which caused physical injury.
