An Elmira man will spend years in state prison following a domestic incident where he struck a victim in the head with a hammer last November.
According to the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office, 20-year-old Jacob Bulkley was sentenced on Monday to six years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision after he pleaded guilty to attempted assault in the first degree.
Elmira Police said Bulkley tried to kill a person by hitting them multiple times in the head with a hammer inside a home on Magee Street on Nov. 13, 2024.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
He was originally charged with attempted murder, attempted assault and assault.
In addition to his prison sentence, an order of protection has been issued for the victim in the case.
