A Binghamton man was sentenced to 21 years to life in state prison Wednesday related to a deadly shooting in January.
According to the Broome County District Attorney’s Office, Terrell L. Heyward was convicted of murder in the second degree related to the killing of Sarah Hauer. Binghamton Police responded to a report of shots fired at 21 Exchange Street in Binghamton on January 11. There, Hauer was pronounced dead at the scene and Heyward was immediately taken into custody.
“Today’s sentencing ensures that a violent offender who committed a heinous act against an innocent victim will face life in prison,” said Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti. “While nothing can undo the pain suffered by the victim’s family, I truly hope today’s sentence provides some peace and closure.”
