Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti has announced that Hamail R. Waddell, 27, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court on August 8, 2025, before the Hon. Carol A. Cocchiola, to Burglary in the Second Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Tampering with a Witness.
On or about May 24, 2025, in the City of Binghamton, Waddell, acting in concert with another individual, unlawfully entered a residence on Morgan Road, the home of his ex-girlfriend, in violation of a No Contact Order of Protection.
Once inside, Waddell struck another male, causing physical injury. During his arrest, Waddell assaulted a Binghamton Police Officer, causing physical injury.
While in custody at the Broome County Jail, on or about June 24, 2025, Waddell attempted to interfere with his prosecution by contacting a protected party on a recorded jail call and urging her not to cooperate in his case.
Waddell entered his guilty plea in exchange for a sentence of six and a half years in New York State Prison followed by four years of post-release supervision.

𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢 “Breaking into a home in violation of an order of protection, violently attacking an individual, injuring a police officer, and then attempting to manipulate the legal process will not be tolerated in Broome County. Our office will continue to ensure, along with our collaborative Law Enforcement partners, that violent offenders are held fully accountable for their actions.”
District Attorney F. Paul Battisti prosecuted this case for the Broome County District Attorney’s Office with the assistance of Chief Investigator Scott Pauly. This case was investigated by the Binghamton Police Department and the Broome County Criminal Investigations/Gang Intelligence Unit (Broome County Sheriff’s Office). Sentencing is scheduled for November 14, 2025, in Broome County Court before Hon. Carol A. Cocchiola.
