UPDATE: On the first day of the 2025-26 school year, students at the Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre were evacuated, Wednesday mid-day, after a threat was made by email toward the school. Epiphany students were taken to Sayre’s Snyder Elementary School where they were being picked up by their parents and guardians. Epiphany School remainded closed for the rest of it’s first day of the school year. According to this release from the school, it will remain closed for the rest of the week:
“As you are aware, we returned to school today and were faced with an unusual circumstance. I want to first thank our faculty, students, and you our parents for your quick actions, flexibility and patience. We have been working with local and state law enforcement agencies and they have assured us that the physical school building is safe. However, we are waiting for final clearance from our law enforcement agencies. So, out of an abundance of caution and in consultation with the Catholic Schools Office, Sayre Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and the FBI, we are going to cancel classes for Thursday, August 21 and Friday, August 22. We plan on reopening school on Monday, August 25. If there are further details to share, I will share them at the earliest possible time. Please know this is not how we anticipated starting this school year! We appreciate your support and look forward to a great start Monday,” said Brenda Quattrini, the school’s new Principal. Wednesday was her first day in the position after the retirement of Sister Kathleen Kelly who served as school Principal for 33-years. Quattrini has taught at Epiphany for 25 years prior to her new role as Principal. She is an alum of Epiphany herself.
Meanwhile, neighboring Superintendent of Sayre schools Mike Wells, also serving his first day as Superintendent for Sayre on their first day of school, said the Sayre School District was operating in “secure mode” as they assisted Epiphany students with the early dismissal, and continued to monitor the situation closely. Sayre students were being kept in the school buildings throughout the event.
We will continue to provide more information on this story as it becomes available.
