Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro recently signed a new law that requires school districts to notify parents, guardians and school employees whenever an incident occurs involving possession of a weapon on school property.

The Sayre Area School District informed the community of the new requirement in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

School districts must issue the notifications within a 24-hour period of the incident unless specific circumstances require otherwise.

Sayre Superintendent Mike Wells said the district will continue to work with law enforcement partners, threat assessment teams and safety and security personnel.

The complete statement from the district can be found above.
