Here is the complete press release from the Endicott Fire Department:
On Tuesday January 27, 2026 at approximately 1:30 pm, the Endicott Fire Department was dispatched to 106 Filmore Ave for a house fire. EFD crews responded Quint 25, Squad 25 as well as Chiefs 25 and 25A immediately and upon arrival, confirmed a working fire and a second alarm was requested.
Crews immediately went to work deploying hose lines to the first floor, which quickly became engulfed and forced a brief retreat while a water supply was established. Due to the cold weather and difficulty hooking up to a hydrant initially, water was provided from Squad 25 into Quint 25 for the initial attack. The electrical service to the structure was compromised prior to crews arriving and was actively arcing on the exterior of the building, causing an additional hazard.
The second alarm brought off duty Endicott personnel and mutual aid companies. Multiple handlines were put into operation on the first and second floors, which were separate apartments. Primary and secondary searches were conducted in both units to confirm all occupants were out of the building, while additional crews opened walls and ceilings to find and extinguish the fire. Crews also opened part of the roof from a tower ladder to ventilate the attic space. Stairs between the first and second floor were burnt away completely and stairs to the attic were determined to be compromised, making access limited and requiring crews to rely on ladders to get into some parts of the building. Fire was located on all floors of the building with the most damage between the first and second floors on the north side of the building.
The fire was determined to be electrical in nature. No injuries were reported and the house is determined to be a total loss. Occupants were being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Endicott was assisted on scene by Endicott Police Department, Village Of Endicott DPW, Fire Department, Johnson City, NY, Endwell Fire Department, Vestal Fire Department, West Corners Fire Department, Union Center Fire Company Inc., Broome County Office of Emergency Services Fire Coordinators, EMS Coordinators, and Bureau of Fire Investigation, Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, Inc. and NYSEG Gas and Electric. West Endicott Fire Department and Prospect Terrace Fire Department manned their stations to provide coverage to the area if needed. Broome County Transit provided a bus for warming due to the cold weather conditions.
We would also like to thank the generous person who dropped off 2 sheet pizzas at the fire house after the fire. It was greatly appreciated.
