A State Superior Court has vacated the vehicular homicide conviction of the former Pennsylvania State Trooper involved in the fatal crash that killed a Troy teacher in 2023.
According to the Harrisburg Patriot News, the three judge panel ruled on Monday that failure to provide accurate information on the juror questionnaire form deprived former trooper Michael J. Brown of his ability to intelligently decide whether to strike that individual.
According to Brown’s attorney, three different jurors answered a question incorrectly on the questionnaire.
Brown was off duty and driving to the Mansfield State Police Barracks on Feb. 11 2023 when he struck a car being driven by 47-year-old Christine Woodward. Brown was passing in a no-passing zone when the accident occurred.
A Tioga County Jury found Brown responsible for the death of Woodward in May of 2024. He was sentenced to six to 23 months in county jail, but was allowed to remain free pending the outcome of his appeal after he posted $50,000 bail.
A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office said they are considering the next steps in the case.
