City of Ithaca orders tenants to vacate residential tower over safety concerns

The City of Ithaca has issued an Order to Vacate for the residential tower at 118 East Green Street.

The order affects floors four through 11, which includes 181 housing units.

The order was issued due to safety concerns after firefighters found broken and missing glass in windows of both stairwells, which are the buildings only emergency exits.

The damage left the stairwells out of compliance with the Uniform Code and unable to function as protected exit enclosures required for safe evacuation.

The City of Ithaca is working with the property owner and Tompkins County officials to identify temporary housing options for displaced residents.
