Here is the complete press release from the Campville Fire Department:

On Saturday, March 7, 2026 at approximately 10:30 AM the Campville Fire Department was dispatched to 198 Cafferty Lane for reported garage fire with flames and smoke visible. Southside Fire Department was automatically dispatched for mutual aid. CFD crews responded in Engine 303 immediately and upon arrival confirmed a working fire and a second alarm was requested. The second alarm triggered assistance from Apalachin Fire, Candor Fire, Newark Valley Fire, Owego Fire, Vestal Fire, West Corners Fire, as well as Tioga County Fire Coordinators, Tioga County Fire investigation and NYSEG.
Upon arrival, 303 reported heavy fire was visible from the detached garage and that the primary residence was in danger from exposure. Quickly utilizing on board water supplies through its turreted master stream appliance, the fire was substantially reduced allowing additional resources time to arrive on scene and further battle the blaze. The homeowner reported that all occupants were out of the primary residence. Firefighters performed a rapid primary search to confirm no occupancy and utilized thermal imagers to investigate for fire extension into the residence. The difficult to reach location of the incident required large diameter hose to be laid in along the road allowing for rural water supply tanker shuttle to be established. This provided the continuous flow of water to the incident needed for firefighters to completely extinguish the blaze. Overhaul operations were conducted, and all resources were clear of the scene by 1:15 PM.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, and is under investigation by Tioga County Fire Investigators. No injuries were reported and the garage is determined to be a total loss. However, the primary residence only suffered minor damage due to the quick actions by members of CFD and all of the mutual aid companies involved. Occupants were being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Campville would like to think all of the mutual aid departments that unhesitantly provided the much-needed resources to bring this fire under control and minimize the damage of the family’s primary residence. Their assistance along with the coordinators investigators and NYSEG is much appreciated.
