The Village of Horseheads is rolling out a new “No Knock” law aimed at reducing unwanted door-to-door solicitations and protecting residents from scams. The measure is part of the village’s existing peddler and solicitor law.
As part of the rollout, the village is offering free “No Knock” stickers to residents. Officials say displaying the sticker is optional but encouraged, especially as a way to help protect older residents who are often targeted by scammers.
Village leaders say enforcing the law will require cooperation from the entire community. The first sticker was placed Monday on the home of longtime Horseheads resident Mary Frances Baker.
Officials say the law does not apply to religious groups, political canvassers, or student fundraisers like the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts. Any clearly visible “no soliciting” sign will also be honored under the new rule.
Free stickers are available now through the Village of Horseheads office.
