The Binghamton Fire Department is honoring Chief Alan Gardiner following his retirement after nearly three decades of service.
The department announced Gardiner’s retirement in a recent Facebook post. He first joined the department in January 1997 and rose steadily through the ranks during his career.
Gardiner was promoted to lieutenant in 2001 and captain in 2005. In 2016, he became fire marshal before being appointed chief of the department in July 2021.
During his time with the department, Gardiner was known as a strong advocate for Binghamton firefighters. He worked to ensure crews had modern, reliable equipment and supported ongoing training opportunities to help firefighters stay prepared for any situation.
The Binghamton Fire Department thanked Gardiner for his leadership, dedication, and commitment to both the department and the Binghamton community.
