BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Irish flag was raised outside Binghamton City Hall on March 17 as part of the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
Mayor Jared Kraham joined members of the local Irish-American community for the ceremony, which honors the heritage and contributions of Irish residents in Broome County.
Despite cold and windy conditions, attendees gathered to mark the tradition, which takes place each year in recognition of the area’s strong Irish roots.
Local Irish-American leaders say the community continues to play an important role in the region’s identity and culture.
The celebration follows Binghamton’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which was held earlier this month.
