ITHACA, N.Y. — Construction is underway on a new center for Jewish student life at Cornell University following a recent groundbreaking ceremony.

The Grinspoon Hillel Center is building Harkavy Hall, a $30 million project located on University Avenue on the west end of campus. The new facility will serve as a dedicated space for Jewish students, something organizers say has been needed for decades.

Cornell’s Hillel program, founded in 1929, has not had its own standalone building, making it unique among Ivy League universities.

The 24,000-square-foot facility will include a kitchen, study areas, and community spaces designed for gathering, learning, and cultural activities.

Students and campus leaders say the new building will provide a central place for connection, identity, and community.

Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2027.
