Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti announced that Shawn A. Lynch, 22, of Binghamton, pled guilty today in Broome County Court before the Hon. Carol A. Cocchiola, to Assault in the First Degree and will serve nine years in a New York State Prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
This conviction stems from a bullet to body shooting that occurred on April 13, 2025, in the City of Binghamton. The Binghamton Police Department responded to a report of shots fired and subsequently learned that the victim had been transported to Wilson Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The victim underwent emergency surgery and survived.
The investigation determined that the victim had been following his ex-girlfriend in a vehicle when the two became involved in an argument. When the ex-girlfriend pulled over, the victim stopped his vehicle behind hers. At that time, the Defendant, positioned in a nearby driveway, fired multiple shots at the victim, striking him in the arm and chest.
“This was a dangerous and senseless act of violence that could have easily resulted in the loss of a life. The Defendant’s actions caused significant harm to the victim and put others at risk. Violent acts such as this will not be tolerated and will be met with the full effect of our County’s collaborative Law Enforcement efforts,” 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐅. 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Alexander Czebiniak prosecuted this case for the Broome County District Attorney’s Office with the assistance of District Attorney Investigator Robert Fimbres. This case was investigated by the Binghamton Police Department and assisted by the Johnson City Police Department, NY and New York State Police. Sentencing is scheduled for June 24, 2026, in Broome County Court before Hon. Carol A. Cocchiola.
