The Village of Deposit has dissolved its contract with the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

The village folded its police department six years ago due to budgetary reasons. For the past three years, Deposit has had a sheriff’s deputy dedicated to the village.

According to WBNG-TV, the village’s contract with the sheriff’s office cost approximately $100,00 per year.

Mayor Bryan Moore said the village board determined the level of service did not meet expectations.

The contract will officially expire on May 15th.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office will continue to serve the Village of Deposit, but Sheriff Fred Akshar has said response times could be longer due to the lack of a dedicated deputy.
