Southern Tier Counties Receive More Than $10 Million for 911, Emergency Communications

SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. — Southern Tier counties will receive more than $10 million in state funding to upgrade emergency communications systems and support 911 operations.

The funding is part of a $110 million investment announced by New York State through the Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant (SICG) and Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Operations Grant programs.

The $90 million SICG program will fund improvements to emergency radio systems, communications training, and maintenance of existing public safety infrastructure.

Southern Tier SICG awards include:

  • Broome County: $1.44 million
  • Chenango County: $968,746
  • Cortland County: $1.34 million
  • Delaware County: $1.34 million
  • Otsego County: $1.2 million
  • Tioga County: $830,060
  • Tompkins County: $1.04 million

An additional $20 million in PSAP grants will help support local 911 call centers and advance Next Generation 911 technology, allowing callers to send text messages, photos, and videos to emergency dispatchers.

Southern Tier PSAP awards include:

  • Broome County: $393,534
  • Chenango County: $310,184
  • Cortland County: $341,726
  • Delaware County: $319,990
  • Otsego County: $319,826
  • Tioga County: $244,860
  • Tompkins County: $286,480

State officials say the funding will improve emergency response capabilities, strengthen communications infrastructure, and help ensure dispatch centers are equipped with the latest technology to serve their communities.
