New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and the New York State Attorney General’s Office are demanding that the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office ends its agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The attorney general’s office sent out letters to 12 agencies, including the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, regarding resolutions allowing some limited cooperation with ICE.
The state officials said the new Local Cops, Local Crimes Act makes those agreements illegal in New York.
According to Hochul, departments have until Aug. 25 to end those agreements.
