The Broome County Sheriff’s Office will end its agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This comes after the Local Cops, Local Crimes Act was passed and the New York Attorney General’s Office sent out letters to 12 law enforcement agencies demanding they stop working with ICE.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar said that whether he agrees with the legislation or not, he will have to follow the law.

Akshar said the sheriff’s office will continue to prioritize the public safety of the people who live, work and are raising their families in this community.
