Ithaca police announce arrest in Lasalle Hargrove homicide

Ithaca police have announced the arrest of Shawn T. Taylor, 45, of New York City in the September 24 homicide of Lasalle D. Hargrove, 35, of Ithaca.

The department’s updated release says Taylor was arraigned before Ithaca City Court Judge Seth Peacock on charges of second-degree murder, a class A-I felony, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony. Police say he was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail without bail.

Ithaca police worked with the U.S. Marshals Task Force and New York State Police on the arrest. The release does not provide further details about where Taylor was arrested.

Officers responded around 6 p.m. September 24 to a reported stabbing at 130 Cherry Street, the Ithaca Arthaus. Police, Bangs Ambulance and the Ithaca Fire Department provided emergency care. The victim was taken to a medical facility and died from his injuries, according to the department’s earlier release.

Police subsequently identified the victim as Hargrove. The department described the incident as isolated and said its investigation remained active.
