A Bradford County jury has convicted a New Albany man on all charges in a child sexual assault case, according to a release from the Bradford County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said the jury returned the verdict Wednesday, October 7, after deliberating for less than half an hour. Rusty C. Howard, 28, was accused of committing sexual offenses against an 11-year-old girl in New Albany between 2023 and 2024.
Howard was found guilty of attempted rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, attempted statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, and indecent assault. The attempted rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse counts are first-degree felonies that each carry a maximum possible sentence of 40 years in prison.
The remaining convictions include first- and second-degree felony counts and a first-degree misdemeanor. The district attorney’s office said Howard will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
Sentencing is expected in approximately 90 days. A conviction is not the same as a final sentence, and the court will determine the penalties at that proceeding.
