The Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA relies heavily on foster parents during “kitten season,” which spans from March to the early fall.
Foster families play an important role in the day-to-day operations of the shelter.
TheHumane Society will be holding several special orientations for individuals interested in becoming foster parents.
The sessions will be held:
* Friday, April 1 from 5 to 7 p.m.
* Saturday, April 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
* Saturday, April 2 from 3 to 5 p.m.
* Thursday, April 7 from 5 to 7 p.m.
All orientations will be held at the Big Flats Community Center. (Please note that interested parties need only attend one session.)
Being a foster family is extremely rewarding and requires no financial burden on the part of the foster family. The shelter provides all the supplies needed to care for the animals, but the foster family must be able to provide:
1. A commitment to care for the animals
2. Reliable transportation to ferry the animals between their temporary home and the shelter for check-ups and vaccinations
3. A place to house the animals away from other household pets
4. Lots of love!
In exchange for the above requirements, the foster family will receive unconditional love from their foster pets.
