The biggest single source of local education is property taxes in New York State. There’s now word of a tentative deal between Governor Cuomo and state legislators to shrink that funding source. Assembly Democrats have agreed to go along with the governor’s plan for a two percent cap on property taxes. The governor calls it a good plan that would provide long-overdue relief for property owners in the state. Senate Republicans, who’ve been pushing for their own version of a property tax cap, will now have to sign off on the deal.
