The New York State Assembly has only two days to legalize the use of medical marijuana during the 2014 legislative session. The Compassionate Care Act calls for victims of 19 different illnesses and ailments to be able to legally use the substance. The bill has been amended four times, and it currently would allow for marijuana to be consumed as a vapor, extract, or through infusion, but not through carbonated beverages or confection. According to reports, Governor Andrew Cuomo says that the bill would need to be adjusted before he signs it, if it were to make it past both the Assembly and Senate. Some of the illnesses that would allow its victims to use medical marijuana under the bill include cancer, HIV, AIDS, ALS, and Alzheimer’s disease.
