The Athens Area School Board voted earlier this week to say “No” to any retroactive pay increase requests during contract negotiations with staff. The board says that it will decline any requests for retroactive pay increases made by either the Athens Area Education Association or the Athens Area Educational Support Professional Association. The Athens Area Education Association is a union among teaching staff at the school district. The Athens Area Educational Support Professional Association is a union among support staff, including secretaries, lunch room workers, and others. Employees of the district have been working without contracts since August of 2013.
