The board of education for the Athens Area School District voted Tuesday to move forward with the sale of two closed elementary schools. The district will be preparing legal advertisements for the sale of the Sheshequin-Ulster and Gladys Burnham elementary schools. Both schools were temporarily closed back in 2012 for a three-year period following restructuring which sent both schools’ students to SRU Elementary in East Smithfield. The former buildings housed students from the Ulster, Sheshequin, and Ridgebury townships. The schools will be sold through sealed bids.
