Nine different agencies in Bradford County are seeking Human Services Development Funds from the county for the next fiscal year, but the county won’t be able to satisfy all of the groups. Combined, the nine agencies are asking for close to $197,000 in funding, but Bradford County officials say the Human Services Development Funds will total no more than $64,000 for next year. A public hearing on Monday saw the nine agencies present their requests. The highest request submitted was by the Mental Health Associates of Towanda, who are asking for over $76,000 to start a treatment program for sex offenders. Other funding requests come from the Area Agency on Aging to pay for home delivered meals, Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentoring programs, county literacy programs, Memorial Hospital’s Good Grief Camp for children who have lost a loved one, and the Bradford County YMCA, among others. The fiscal year begins on July 1st, and the Bradford County commissioners must approve the funding distribution by that time.
