More details have been released in the case of the kayak accident that left one woman dead. The victim in the incident has been identified as 58-year-old Donna Bailey of Corning, and her body was recovered in the Chemung River near Big Flats around 7:30 Sunday evening. Bailey and her 32-year-old who daughter, whose name has not been released, entered the river around 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. The two-person kayak encountered a down tree as they came around a river bend, and investigators believe that the kayak struck a limb and overturned, pinning the two women against the tree. Neither woman was wearing a life jacket. The daughter was able to free herself and swim to shore. She then waved down a passing motorcyclist on state Route 352 who called 911 just before 4 o’clock. Donna Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene when she was found around 7 o’clock.
