Hundreds Go To Albany To Push For Marriage Equality

People are gathering in Albany in anticipation of a decision on whether New York will legalize same sex marriage.  Hundreds crowded the Capitol for an end of session push to pass Marriage Equality in the New York Legislature.  It includes people from the Binghamton area hoping lawmakers can reach a deal.  Legalizing same sex marriage has passed in the Assembly before — but hasn’t made it this close to a vote in the State Senate.  Supporters of Marriage Equality say there needs to be an open forum, and that senators need to put their political views aside and give the people of New York what they want.  The sticking point seems to be how to protect religious groups who do not want to get caught up in having to recognize gay marriage or perform ceremonies.  Supporters plan on pressuring senators with phone calls to reach a compromise and get the measure passed.
