Pennsylvania State Attorney General Kathleen Kane is filing a lawsuit against a major gas drilling company on behalf of several Pennsylvania residents. According to the attorney general’s office, the lawsuit was filed against Chesapeake Energy, after an investigation revealed that landowners who allowed the company to drill on their property, did not receive the revenue kickback they were promised. Landowners are said to have been promised 12.5% of whatever money Chesapeake Energy made off of gas drilling on their property. According to some landowners and the attorney general’s office, landowners did not receive the percentage of proceeds promised to them. The attorney general’s office of Pennsylvania is looking to require Chesapeake Energy to pay all money owed to landowners, as well as, civil penalties, and legal fees.
