The Town of Owego Zoning Board of Appeals gave its unanimous approval to Upstate Shredding to continue with its plan to build a scrap metal processing plant on the South Side of Owego. Residents in the area where the new plant is expected to be located expressed concerns over potential heightened noise levels and increased traffic congestion in the area of the new plant. Owner of Upstate Shredding, Adam Weitsman, assured local residents on the South Side of Owego that the new facility will be sound proofed, and that no more than 5-10 trucks will be travelling to the new facility a day. Construction of the new $7.5 million facility is expected to be completed within the next few months.
