New York State Police celebrate 100 years

Yesterday marked the 100th anniversary of the start of the New York State Police. The force was established on April 11, 1917 by then Gov. Charles Whitman. Current Gov. Andrew Cuomo marked the day by designating April 11 as New York State Police Day and dedicating a historical marker at the Calvary Club in Manlius. The club sits on the former Camp Newayo, where the first 232 Troopers received their training in 1917. Currently, there are more than 5,600 sworn and civilian members of the state police in 11 troops across New York, including Troop C based in Sidney which covers most of our listening area.
