Gov. Andrew Cuomo has lost the unequivocal support of the two leading Democrats in the New York State Legislature. Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said Sunday the governor should resign. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie also issued a statement Sunday, saying Cuomo “should seriously consider whether he can effectively meet the needs of the people of New York.” Heastie did not use the word “resign.”

Day by day, the controversy intensifies amid increasing allegations by females of sexual harassment against the governor, as well as disclosures by the state’s top newspapers into Cuomo’s role in the deaths of thousands of nursing home residents at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest harrassment allegations were reported over the weekend by The Washington Post. Two additional former female aides accused him of inappropirate behavor and two male aides said Cuomo routinely used “explicit language” about them when they worked in the governor’s office.

Cuomo said again Sunday that he will not resign and denies all allegations.
