Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday has filed a lawsuit against a business accused of selling fraudulent spotted lanternfly permits and training.
The attorney general’s Bureau of Consumer Protection alleges Kevin Wardell, Diverse Solutions LLC and an operation called the Spotted Lanternfly Commission sent deceptive mailings that appeared to use government-style logos. The suit says businesses were asked to pay for permits and training that Pennsylvania provides free of charge.
The lawsuit seeks an injunction, restitution and civil penalties. The claims are allegations and have not been decided by a court.
Businesses that move goods in and out of spotted-lanternfly quarantine areas can obtain the required training and permits through the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture without paying a private vendor.
