Cornell University has withdrawn its recognition of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity for five years following an investigation into the death of member George Desdunes.
The University issued a statement on the matter, saying an investigation “indicates that George Desdunes, 19, was provided alcohol while in the care of certain members and associate members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and became incapacitated.
Even though the members and associate members recognized the condition Desdunes was in, they failed to call for medical care.
He subsequently died”.
The investigation by the Ithaca Police Department, with the support of the New York State Police and Cornell Police continues.
The fraternity members will have to vacate the house at 122 McGraw Place.
The University is helping with alternative housing for those affected.
