The Elmira School District’s proposed budget for next year looks to raise taxes by 2 percent, with no cuts to personnel. District officials are looking to get the increase down to 2 percent after an original $117 million plan called for a 3.61 percent increase. In order to reduce the tax increase, the district decided against putting $514,000 into their reserve fund as originally planned, bringing the proposal down to $116.6 million. The board is scheduled to vote on the budget on April 23rd before holding a public hearing May 7th, followed by the public vote on May 20th.
