A family of four escaped from their Elmira home safely after a fire sparked early this morning. Fire officials said the call went out around 2 for a fire at 734 Riverside Avenue in Elmira. The fire started under the front porch, which is attached to the house. It then spread into the home. Fire crews managed to quickly extinguish the fire before it reached the second floor. Fire officials said the smoke detectors helped alert the family. There is extensive damage to the porch, and no one was hurt. The cause is under investigation.
