An Elmira school was put on lockdown Thursday morning after a reported gun scare. A school resource officer secured the scene at Southside High School in Elmira while Chemung County Sheriff’s deputies responded. An investigation determined that several students possessed an air pistol which looked like a real gun. Two of the students are accused of pointing the gun at another student, and three students in all are now facing charges in the case. A 14-year-old was charged with menacing in the second degree for pointing the gun at the other student, and another student, 16-year-old Devon Torres, is being arrested as an adult, and also facing menacing charges for pointing the gun at a student the day before. Another 15-year-old student is also being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a person under 16. The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by New York State Police.
