The Village of Horseheads is getting a lot of help from the state and federal government to repair a local water well. The flood waters from Tropical Storm Lee compromised one of the village’s wells, causing the health department to order a filtration system installed. Since then, the well has been functional, but needed upgrades. Now, the village is getting $4.4 million in grants to install a sand-filter filtration system. Leaders say this will benefit not only the village but surrounding areas for the next 50 years. A developer still needs to be chosen to build the system. The construction should take about one year.
