A man was shot by police during a standoff in the Town of Southport yesterday. It started around 6am when police were called to Allen Street for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they say the suspect opened fire on them. Police returned fire and the unidentified man was wounded. He barricaded himself inside a home and stayed there for around three hours until surrendering to receive medical care. Police say the man was wanted by the Department of Corrections Parole Division. No other injuries were reported. Elmira and West Elmira Police were at the scene along with members of the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.v
