A 19-year-old Elmira man faces two felony weapon-possession charges after Chemung County investigators say two loaded handguns were found during a probation home visit in Southport.
The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office says investigators assisted county probation officers September 17 at the Hopkins Place Apartments, 550 Spruce Street. During the visit, authorities found two loaded handguns in a small mechanical crawl space, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The weapons were turned over to Sheriff’s Office investigators. Authorities later arrested Kyree Roney and charged him with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class C felony.
Roney was arraigned in Southport Town Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail. The Sheriff’s Office says he is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
The charges are allegations. Roney is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
