An Elmira man is facing burglary and grand-larceny charges following an investigation into a break-in at a home in Big Flats, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the incident happened July 25 at a residence on Coleman Avenue. Investigators said the suspect left the home and fled into nearby woods before deputies arrived at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the defendant as 30-year-old Drew Shaffer of Elmira. He was arrested Saturday, September 19, arraigned and released pending further court proceedings.
The public information released by the Sheriff’s Office did not provide additional details about the property reported stolen or the specific circumstances that led investigators to identify Shaffer. The case will proceed through the local court system.
Burglary and grand larceny are charges, not findings of guilt. Shaffer is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
