The Chemung County Veterans Council and the City of Elmira have announced the schedule for the 2026 Elmira Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Service at Woodlawn National Cemetery on Monday.

The parade assembly area will be Park Place from the corner of Washington Ave. to Clinton Ave., and Clinton Ave. from Park Place to College Ave. for Fire Departments. The Elmira Police Department will enforce a parking ban on Park Place and Clinton Ave. in the assembly areas beginning at midnight on Monday. Violators will be towed.

The parade assembly will begin on Monday at 8 a.m. Park Place and streets crossing Park Place will be closed to traffic beginning at that time.

The parade will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. Officials are asking those with floats to provide a sturdy hand railing or individual restraint system for all riders.

The parade will begin at Washington Ave., proceed north on College Ave. to Roe Ave., turning west onto Roe Ave. to Davis St., then turning north on Davis St. to Woodlawn National Cemetery where the parade will end.

The Memorial Service at Woodlawn National Cemetery will begin at 11 a.m.

Officials are encouraging all veterans to proudly wear some uniform item, decoration or hat that will identify them as a proud American veteran. Recent changes in United States law allows ALL VETERANS to render a military hand salute as the American Flag passes. All others should place their right hand over their heart as the flag passes.

If you are aware of any veterans that are unable to walk, there will be a float available for them to ride on.
