Two new exhibitions are now open at Community Arts of Elmira, giving visitors a pair of different approaches to materials, daily life and environmental awareness.
“Trashy Art” opened Saturday in the Community Art Gallery at 413 Lake Street. Community Arts of Elmira describes it as a Creative Community Partnership with Friends of the Chemung River Watershed and Southern Tier Reduces. The exhibition focuses on work that gives reused or discarded materials a new purpose while inviting visitors to think about waste and the local environment.
“Domestic Beasts: Monsters of the Mundane” by fiber artist Betz White opened the same evening in the Przygoda Gallery. The exhibition looks at familiar domestic objects and routines through imaginative fiber work, turning ordinary parts of everyday life into unusual creatures and forms.
Both opening celebrations were held September 26th and included artist talks. The exhibitions are free and open to the public during regular gallery hours, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 AM until 1 PM.
“Trashy Art” is scheduled to remain on view through October 24th. “Domestic Beasts: Monsters of the Mundane” is scheduled through November 28th.
Community Arts of Elmira is located at 413 Lake Street. The nonprofit operates galleries, arts-education programs and public-art projects from its site on Elmira’s Creative Corridor.
