Law abiding residents in Pennsylvania will soon have the right to defend their homes with deadly force, now that Governor Tom Corbett has signed the Castle Doctrine into law. Under the law, deadly force can be used to protect one’s family from an intruder, whether it is in the home or a vehicle. But it cannot be used against someone who is a resident of the home, a member of law enforcement, or if the home is used for criminal activity. The law also strengthens penalties for trafficking stolen guns. The Castle Doctrine was vetoed by former Governor Ed Rendell last year. The law will go into effect in 60 days.
