As negotiations continue on Governor Cuomo’s proposal to build new casinos in New York State, we’re learning that there’s a backup plan in place in case voters reject the idea. A spokesperson for the governor says if a constitutional amendment allowing state-sanctioned casino gambling is defeated, another plan would create more video slot machine centers.
The casino bill would authorize centers with up to 5,000 slot machines each in New York City’s outer boroughs and three or four places Upstate. The governor’s office said that would ensure new revenue for local governments and schools. The casino gambling referendum is expected to be up for a public vote this fall.
