The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office and the Elmira Police Department have made children’s safety inside a vehicle a top priority. Saturday at the Elmira Fire Department headquarters, officers from both agencies were on hand to inspect child safety seats. Anybody who brought in a child safety seat that did not meet safety standards or had expired was given a new seat free of charge. The event was made possible by a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and while there are no more child seat inspection events are currently scheduled, you can still have your seat inspected and if needed, replaced, free of charge.
