Both Tioga and Broome counties are recognizing their emergency dispatchers this week for National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Across the nation, the men and women who receive emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to citizens are being honored this week. The Broome County Office of Emergency Services says their dispatchers answer around 1,400 phone calls each day.
